Hello all,
I picked up an 1100 va ot long ago, nice looking car but have had a few problems.
Was running hot, have replaced the radiator cleaned the gunk out (remoed bung at rear of block and finally got a flow) and currently have removed the thermostat out. No overheating.
The problem (running hot or as it is at the moment), when I take her out for a run (only tests at the moment) she goes ok for 5 or 6 km's then she starts to stutter, like a car running out juice, she will sometimes come good for a few more km's then go through the same antics (stalls occasionally in 4th gear) and once she stops will generally start after 15-20 minutes.
Sometimes runs ok when she re-strarts, sometimes rough - at the moment she's rough.
I dumped the fuel she came with, I've run a fuel line cleaner through, idle seems at right level, there's oil in the dashpot, the oil level doesn't seem to be rising (and the oil looks/feels ok).
Has anybody had a similar problem, any suggestions for what else I need to look at, change, adjust shoot.
Thanks for the assitance
Dennis

 Ignition timing out + Carb lean = Hot engine
Best check rocker clearences, point gap, plug gaps, condition of plugs points, rotor, cap, fuel filter, air filter . . . etc while your at it. :)

Yeah I'm with Ballistic :)

It could be a few things but most likely ignition or fuel

Just a question, have you tried removing the jet and the line to the jet and blowing them out? sometimes when they have been running without a filter for a while the line from the float bowl to the jet gets clogged and starves it,,, its happened to me a couple of times in cars that I've bought without fuel filters...

anyway, just another thing to check i guess... good luck :)

I would also replace the condenser, sounds like a condenser problem to me.

Thanks guys, will look at all of it tomorrow.
Will try to be systematic and identify the actual cure - so I know if it happens again.
Appreciate the advice.

Regards

Dennis

once problem is found & mini ceased overheating. i'd think bout putting thermostat back in to ensure car operates at a constant correct temp. it shouldnt cause ur car to overheat but could indicate something else isn't quite right.

Guys,
Adjusted mixture (plugs a darker now) - Test - about 5k and did the same thing.
Checked advance - according to book and reading ok (got a mechanic to check to see if I had it right) - Test - 5 k same thing
Replaced condensor and rest points - test - 5k - didn't stall but wanted to - parked up and the motor rev's were rising and dropping without touching the accelerator.
Won't rev either
Have a carby from the other mini which was set up before I pulled the motor out for a rebuild (another story) which I will bolt on next weekend I hope.
Spoke with a guy who races various cars, he thinks maybe a problem in the disi, a plate behind the front section ?? Anyone encountered a problem with this before.
Thanks for the help
Dennis

Check the fuel tank breather

if the tank breather is blocked & you have a sealed tank cap, then, as you drive along it will start to creat a vacuum in the tank & eventually that will over come the fuel pumps pressure

They end up sucking against eachother

:-)

Mmmm,,, sucking against eachother,,,, :-) oh,,, sorry ,,, wrong forum for that stuff :-)
