Hi,

I've just moved to Qld and getting a roadworthy done on ruby to get it rego here.
I have std rims & hubcaps but with 16570R10 tyres.
The mechanic has told me to remove the spacers on the rears. The spacers are 5-6mm in width
Found out why they are there. One tyre is rubbing after a quick drive around the block.
After advice on a solution to this.
Other than buying 145R10s what should I look at.
1. Mini Cooper S 1" stepped drums? Minisport has a kit with drums, studs and linings. Do I need to change the wheel cylinders? Would this foul on the guard side with this tyre.
2. Is there a moke hub with a 5mm spacer built in? Will this need new linings, studs & cylinders to work properly.

You can use either Cooper S/Mini S drums with the 1" spacer built in, or Moke drums with the 3/4 spacer built in.
Either way, you will need the longer studs to suit. The wheel cylinders will be fine.
Or, you can get either of these drums machined so the `spacer' bit is similar to what width you have now.

Was just putting the spacers back on so I could take the mini out.
I've realised I'll have to take the hub & bearing apart so I can push the new studs in.
It now just got an extra level a difficulty...

Have many others tried this with the std 10" rims?

It is possible to pull the stud through by packing with washers and winding the nut on. I have done this without issue in the past when one stud broke after the usual overtightening by a tyre place

I'm a bit worried about damaging the bearing as a gentle ease (bash) out the current wheel studs...

take them off when you get to the mechanics, and refit them when you leave! Bit naughty I know,

But the current tyres are rubbing on one side without the spacer. I'm sure that will be a fail as well.

You could always try fitting the right size tyres to the rims.

hey im running 165/70r10's and they dont rub on my guards no spacers but they are contessa mags with stock breaks

Another option is changing your wheels. Normal contessa's will fit on with non spacers drums and wont require flares.

Best option is to fit spacer drums though. It's really not an issue pulling the hub off. Just remember that one nut on the rear is actually a reverse thread. Replace the studs. Pack the bearing with fresh grease and tighten up. Fit a NEW split pin.
