Hi Champ,
Thanks for the info, I have been offered $20K for it twice now. If I get the $25K I will sell it. If I wanted to ask 50K, I would of. You find me one more original than this I bet you cant. Maybee a couple of piddly things have changed. So What. My Claim is the originality of the moke and if someone wants one, its there choice. All the Best.

He's obviously out to screw someone. Too bad we can't tip off unsuspecting buyers.
If that's a $25K car, I'm a monkey's uncle.

Maybe those "20k offers" are just jokes? I read the question/answer by a "20k offer" person. It seemed genuine but could have easily been a joke.

I really think this bloke is out to get someone. It's probably a nice car, but 20k? Only to go to the first Mini/Moke show feeling proud for his "most original Moke in Australia" only to find it's average and not all that original.

I reckon the Moke in the ad is misrepresented I think the seller meant "most expensive Moke in Australia, genuine rip off" rather than most original perhaps?

Oh well, I don't think it'll sell anyways, 20k for any kind of Moke is rediculous IMO.

of course they are jokes... when I was selling my motorbike i got friends to randomly ask me questions and whether they could come and see it so then anyone else that was looking at the ad would think that there was heaps of interest in the bike. It definitely worked... hahaha.

This thing is a POS. Like as if someone would pay all that money for a completely original Moke that doesnt even have a roof..!!!

So the number on this thing is AKPPB19Y

He writes back to me and says that it states "californian" on the plate, but zooming into the pic there is no mention of cali on it. Whats the breakdown on this chassis number.

Copied from the Moke Forum:

AK = Moke
F, H or P = model class. F= high line, H = mid line & P = low line. Does 'F' mean Californian?
A, F or P = body style. A = 2 door saloon, F = van & P = buckboard
B or D = engine size. B = 998 & D = 1275
1 or 2 = transmission & steering. 1 = 4 speed manual and right hand drive & 2 = 4 speed manual and Left hand drive
8 or 9 = year of production. 8 = 1978 & 9 = 1979
Y = Australia
and chassis numbers for this series start at 100,001

So AKPPB19Y is a Moke ( Huh) poverty pack, Buckboard, 998cc, 4 speed RH Drive, 1979, Australian made

You will notice that its body number is 100005 so it is the forth moke made in this series.
the weird thing is that the AK series started back in 78, the earliest one on the moke register is may 78 with a number of 100822.
We think that the plates where date stamped and fixed to the cars when they were sold to a dealer so this one on ebay being a povo pack may of sat unsold for a couple of years, I think most people wanted Californians at this time. but it has a side fill tank so it is an 80 model.
I carn't workout this body number thing, they don't seem to relate to the year stamped on the plate :(

It would be the fifth one made and not the fourth. The first one would be 100001, the second one would be 100002, the fifth one would be 100005.
The AK system started in 78 but this is a AKPPB19Y. This model started in 79. The 9 represents the year the model commenced and not the year of manufacture. So the numbers for this model would have started again in 79 at car 100001.
But as I said in my previous post the plates with the date stamped from the front could have been stamped at any time, actually any plate could be stamped at any time but it was more obvious at this time.

They did actually start making the Gal Bodied Moke in late 1979. The earliest plate I have seen was stamped October 1979.
