I think your biggest problem is going to be making it look like it was deliberate, rather than you just parked in the wrong place one Saturday night.

Going by the examples shown above you should probably avoid any lettering whatsoever as it is just going to look like one giant tag. The dragon on the purple mini looks ok, but isn't a good match for the bright purple paint. It would look a lot better on a black or white car where the colours of the dragon would stand out. The bonnet on the drift car looks good except for the fact that it is very obvious that only the bonnet got painted.

Stencilling is easy to do but hard to get right. The best pieces seem to have a sense of humour and something to say(eg Banksy). I think that the stencils would have to somehow relate to the car to work well. If you are looking for stencillers then university/TAFE art courses would be the place to look.

Try and come up with a theme for the whole car and stick to that, rather than random stuff on each panel. (Kind of like the difference between a Japanese full back tattoo and Amy Winehouse's tramp stamps.)

what about painting panels so it looks like its see through....... They do it on buses now so it looks like your looking at the person sitting down on the bus but you only see their head and the painted body. Kinda funny....

Sound advice. And this is going to be one style where it's all or nothing. I would think you're going to have to do the whole car (The purple mini looks like it belongs to a 12 year old, no(t much) offense intended).

Quality, commitment and overall style will carry it off; anything less will look horrendous. And congrats on doing something different to the white roof/bonnet strips etc.

How about a grafiti-ised version of the three Italian Job mini's coming out of the sewer ?

As for the rest of the argument , by the same token did the Beatles destroy their car's when they covered them with psychadelic and random images ? Mini's have been modified to their owners tastes almost since they were first released , that's part of the fun with them :D

spray cans are messy. airbrush is the way to go. you'll probably need to get your helmet airbrushed too. and it will be AWESOME

I have thought about this style myself,
The only 2 problems I can see is the car being more of a target for vandals in the future and seeing as a mini is so small getting good detail in the art will be a challenge.
Think about stencil art aswell as spray cans

Another alternative... Not my Facetube (best I could find with a quick Google), but it's an image from a mag, anyway. The claim (from Clarkson) is that F1 teams are now painting their cars with ultraviolet paint before practice sessions, then analyzing the paint (under black lights) when they get back, to see what it looks like. Might not work on a Mini (no, I'm not suggesting ultraviolet paint, just the effect), and might be difficult to do, but it looks cool here...

Whatever you do, just don't end up on something like Carbage.
