Try buying helical close ratio dog box :)

I believe I had one!

I picked up a 3 synch gearbox with a deluxe I bought in 92. When I had it rebuilt the laygear number spun me out so I had a closer look. I've got no idea of its reason for existance, but there you go.
Here's the details from the teeth count I took at the time:

22G210
Top 1.040 : 1
Third 1.190 : 1
Second 1.705 : 1
First 2.46 : 1
Reverse 2.46 : 1

Sounds like the original S 3 sync close ratio helical.

1st & Reverse 2.568
2nd 1.780
3rd 1.242

from Mk1 Performance conversions top of the second page

Alternative gearing available as factory option for gearboxes based on 22G392 mainshaft (which have late B-type as originally for 22G232 laygear based boxes) for Cooper and S only:
* C-22G210 (helical cut close ratio)
* C-22G335 (straight cut standard ratios)
* C-22G306 (straight cut close ratio) (was replaced by 22G1047)
The original laygears are marked with the appropriate 22Gxxx number

not a dog box though! but a very nice score!!!

cheers

Kevin

If you listen carefully you can hear the high pitched whine above the induction and engine noise here:

How much noise do they make ?

I was very impressed with that video, nice driveing.

We have a S/C 3 snc gearbox in the race car with std drop gears and diff crownwheel & pinion (modified for LSD) We recently had a new crownwheel & pinion made that is S/C and it has made a noticable difference to the sound, much louder now. I have also just obtained a genuine S/C drop gear set that I will use shortly (PI in March) so we'll see how much more noise it makes with them twirling around. :D

This CR helical gear set is fitted to the original gearbox of my Black Mk 1 S. Very nice gears on the road.

Is it true that some of the older SCCR gearsets need to run bronze competition baulk rings (which are now NLA)?
I have a set of SCCR gears here, the cone bits don't appear to be titanium nitrided or whatever the coating was.
