Has anyone tried to put a Morris 1500 engine and gearbox into a mini. Does it fit or not?. What about the 5 speed gearbox - will it bolt to a mini block?

M1500 into a Mini has been done.
No, the box won't fit a Mini block, the size and layout is different. I had a gearcase here, it's now in the skip at work.

WTF would you get parts for a M1500, they are an orphan these days. :?

<edt> Shameless plug- I do have 2 NEW M1500 8.4" disc rotors if anybody?? needs some. Real cheap.:lol:
Nooooooooo, they won't fit Mini drive flanges.

My cylinder head man, Rob, raced a mini years ago with a Morris 1500 engine, gearbox etc in it, with some sucess.

there is someone who apparently has converted a few mini gearboxes to run that gearset

I'd like to have a go at it

Robin in the MOA (Vic) put one in his Moke (with a 5 speed). It went OK, got airbourne quite easily (on the sand dunes), but at the end of the day, it really was no better than a standard 1275 and used a lot more fuel. Sorry, good thought but not worth bothering with.

Terry Pollard now has this Moke.

don`t mean to be picky Doc, but they`re actually 8.3" rotors :-)

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

As far as I recall the 1500 engine (O series?) was just a heap of crud.

Its not a "O" series , its an "E" series and they are quite good engines, there smooth and respond well to "tuning" My 1750 powered Marina go's very well, any Austin Kimberly or Tasman with the 6 cylinder version of the E series are great and the "big block" 2.6lt fitted to Marinas and the P76 are great little engines, as powerfull as an equivalent Holden or Ford engine. I am currently building a "hotted up" 6 for my P76 so ill post some photos soon. As for a 1500, there ok too but respond even better with a set of twin SUs and a 5 speed.

I have never owned an E series but I would not knock one back if it was offered. My wife's grandfather had a P76 Six and it was a very smooth engine.
My question to the experts is can you fit a 1750 crank in a 1500 motor?

My question to the experts is can you fit a 1750 crank in a 1500 motor?

Yes, if you have a early type 1750 crank. The later type had larger main bearing journals and wont fit into a 1500 or early 1750 block. - not sure about the flywheel end of the crank tho, 1500 cranks may be different, I havent seen inside a 1500 for a good 15 years. All i can remember about 1500s is the balk rings in the gearbox can be used in a mini box if you grind of the 3 extra lugs. Bore sizes for all the E engines are the same & pistons are NLA, except if you find NOS or get someone like JP to make them.

my two cents now....

one being is there much of a weight difference between E and A series
engines....


cause I thought about putting a MGB engine in (think b series)
and was told it weight as much if not more than the car :?
