G'day guys... just wired up my flasho tacho as per the destructions... all is well wen i click the key to the 'ON' position, soon as i start it, it all just goes apesh1t!!

I'm getting my power from the same terminal that the fuel pump gets power from... and ive tryed direct constant 12v power and still goes crazy one you start the engine.

Ive got it erthed well, tryed that in a number of different positions.

ive got the trigger/feed wire on the correct side of the coil.

Coz its a stepper motor tacho, it calibrates everytime its powered, so soon as i turn the key 'ON' it does its check at 12,000rpm, 8,000rpm, 4,000rpm, and then goes to 0.

My car is a 71 K so only has the Off/On/Start ignition switch. Its running a standard points type dizzy, with alternator.

Any ideas?

I'm hoping to test the tacho on another car tomorrow, but thought i'd wack the problem up here first!

cheers

Cam

On the back of the tacho do you have to set it for the amount of cylinders the vehicle has or does it calibrate itself :?:
It may be getting to much power in and may require a (variable) resistor to be fitted (was there an inline one in the packaging . . . does the instructions have any mention of it possibly needing one to be fitted?).

It means a setting is not made properly, or the meter is being upset by spikes. Try it out on another car like you said and have a look at your settings. I believe there's a series of dip switches on the back?

As for spikes you might want to consider the condition of your points and condensor....if your condensor is not suppressing properly it is possible that harmonics from the unsuppressed back emf could upset the tacho's reading.

Have a look at the instructions from the makers webpage.

i know with mine there was a resistor and in the instructions it said for cars with points to put the resistor inline for the feed from the coil
