Hi all. Has anyone used the electronic 45D distributors available from SimonsBBC in the UK? Cost is about $130 including postage. They also have the standard points type. These run on a normal coil.

http://simonbbc.com/automotiveshop/powe ... -p-47.html

If you look on the site there is another one which is their performance one which is meant to run off an electronic coil.

Anyone know of another alternative at similar cost in Oz?

I used a Pertronix D170600 Ignitor II. Coil was a Pertronix Flamethrower II 45KV.
I bought it here- http://www.vintageperformance.com/retro ... eries1.htm
It was well made, gave good sparks but the advance curve didn't suit my engine build, head and cam. I sold it to 74snail, he's happy with it.
There's one running in WA too in an LS1380.

You can buy them in Oz, but it's cheaper to import from the site above.

Can't find anyone at the UK forums with anything to say. There are some comments on E-bay but these are just the usual "quick post" and all the guff.

I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on with it.

Yeah Scorcher are good news - I've got them in my Rover V8s and Mini. Old School I know but then so are the rest of these 1950s design engines and they're simple to work on.

It's in the car.

Was a breeze to install.

The shaft diameter was 0.1mm karger than the lucas one so it is a slightly more snug fit.

Timed it and took it for a drive and it didn't miss a beat.

I'll keep this updated with how it goes in the future but all seems ok for now.

:D :D :D
