I have always wanted to know if my 66 Mini deluxe is a 'rebirth' job or the real thing ie. the body matching the engine block.

If I provide the Engine No. (on block below spark #1), Engine Prefix (on firewall plate), Body Prefix no., and Body no. (stamped below firewall plate), could someone give me a answer?

My feeling is that it is original, but I am not sure at the moment.

Thanks
Marc

Forgot to mention - Feb 1966 is stamped on the inside mechanism body of the boot lock.

The engine 99H834AJ/H1344 is out of a Leyland Mini from late 1976.

YMA2S2 is a Mini Deluxe.
Car number 23528 would have been made around late 66 or early 67.

The boot lock is only a rough guide to a build date. The last Aussie Minis made in 78 have boot locks stamped 76.

Thanks for the info Morris 1100. I suspected what you told me but wasnt sure. :(

I have a spare motor which I believe is an 1100 engine. I was told it might be out of an old Morris 1100. The Engine no. is 10Y/Ta/H61856.

Would you be able to identify this motor? Found it in a paddock in Mudgee (central west NSW).

Yep, it is a Morris 1100 motor from about 1968.

I assume it could be dropped directly into a mini with no problems?

depends if it's a good motor or not..... if you found it in a paddock, there's a good chance it's stuffed

and the gearchange/diff housing is different, so best put on a mini gearbox

The diff ratio is awful for anything including a Morris 1100. It is probably a 3 syncro box. (no syncro on first)
Like Simon said the gear change bolts up differently so you may as well change the the box to a Mini box.

OK maybe I will leave the present engine in place.
However are there any suggestions with regards to using bits and pieces from the 68 Morris 1100 engine that can be used with the 998 mini engine? For example are the heads on the 1100 better than the one sitting on the 998?

Putting the 202 head on the 998 is worth a couple of HP.
Even more if you add an HS4 and manifold of a 998 Clubby.

Thanks Dr,
Will try that. As for the HS4 (from memory, I assume this is the 1 1/2 inch single carb) - already have one fixed to the 998 mini engine. 2 or more HP will be great!! :D

You will see about 4-5HP with both mods.
Even better- deck the 202 head .060" before you fit it to a 998. The C/R will be lower otherwise.
