After reading a few UK based mags and stuff it seems the Brits are mad keen on wearing latex gloves while working on their cars.
So who here wears gloves while working on their car?

I have tried gloves but I can't get good ones. Any clues on where to buy good ones?

Gloves for me..no chance..I like to feel what i'm doing. but I do use sugar soap or cloths washing powered. Keep nails short

but in saying that I walk around in GR's work shop in bare feet but have to wear steal caps 8-4 at work .

Get a good hand cleaning product that is good for your hands and get a ratty tatty towel for for use in the garage

I haven't done this. But I'd imagine it would save a lot of scrubbing.

However most latex gloves aren't very good. You would need quality and then it gets expensive.

I did get some from a company called Livingstones. They do scientific supplies. The gloves were Oil Resistant and did last quite well while still offering some feel. They were very expensive (and this supplier is cheap for most stuff).

I just use barrier cream these days.

I use a combination, disposable vinyl examination gloves as the inner pair with white cotton (available from woollies) as the outers. I still get good "feel" and the cotton stops the vinyl gloves from being easily torn. Does not matter if the cotton gets soaked in oil and grease, the vinyl inners stop the fingers getting dirty. They do sweat a little but is not too much, and cheap enough to be disposable. Latex is not so good as it can set off a dermatitus reaction in some people and is not as resistant to solvents.

Nope never use them, Nothing a bit of mums radiant washing power cant fix. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!.

I'm a plumber and these gloves are a part of every day life.I've tryed useing them during my mini rebuild and maintenance and found it easier at times' exspecialy when the phone rings.But the boss is in the process of changing to barrier cream becose of the expence of the gloves.

I use them, with experience you naturally make them last longer.
Brake fluid makes my hands sore so they are really good for that.

Latex gloves are no good... They'r to fragile for most work... I use cotton wool gloves. Takes a bit to get used too, but then they'r fine. They let oil through, though. But the amount of thin grease and oil that gets through washes off realy easy

This really is a can of worms... Some components of oils, greases, fuels and solvents are know carcinogens, your skin is porous and so it is best to avoid direct contact, the labels usually say something to that effect.

I value my health in the long term and so I wear 2 pairs of cheap latex gloves and just swap the outer pair when ever they get damaged or I switch from a messy to clean job...

I keep old socks, realy good when you pull an engine down. just undo all bolts with air spanner, then pick up with old sock on hand, very good for head bolts etc. when you are finished just chuck em!!
