I have one of those in my pile - no plastic tank for it though. No idea where I got it

Apologies maybe in order here but it appeared that it was the Tin Tank M/Cs you and / or austion costin were refering to.

It's a real shame we don't have the factory records or other proof of the timing of changes in master cylinders (and other Mini components for that matter). It makes building a concours car virtually impossible.

When did the iron (versus alloy) master cylinder with plastic reservoir appear and disappear in production, and were they brake and/or clutch? I seem to remember them on early MK II S's.

I think the alloy ones were used on the PBRs only. They were quite fond of the stuff because they say, beyond a kit, it's non-servicable (ie cannot be honed or sleaved).

Girlock was a merger of the Australian arms of Girling and Lockheed.
The change of name from Lockheed to Girlock on the cylinders would have been just a name change and not a change of manufacturer.

I would guess that the PBR cylinders would have been an aftermarket cylinder.

I think the Lockheed ones were available in both cast iron and alloy.

PBR (Patons Brake Replacements) became part of Repco.

I think you'll find that the Lockheed ones are original and the PBRs are a replacement.

Are you sure?? what makes you think that

The actual cylinders themselves are branded lockheed and PBR and the resovoirs match the branded bodies respectively??

But i beleive that they have been out at some stage.

Lockheed and much later Girlock (but this was after the GT era) had the contract to supply BMC / Leyland. PBR did not.

Mate, after 38 or so years, do you really think they would be those fitted to it at Zetland?

Well yeah strong possibility, my other ones are (other GT). But you could be right. Cant be 100% sure. But it was only used for 18 yrs and stored for last 20

To me it would make sense, that because the brakeboosters were PBR a few brake master cylinders could have been used.
