There are a few Aussie Mini vans here. I've seen three, mine came here in 89'. A lot more sedans are here by far.

Hi All,

Thought it was about time for an intro, been lurking for a while.

I recently picked up an 850 which, with the help of Sports850 looks like it's a '61.

Paints buggered, seats and carpet are buggered, motor turns by hand (not the original unfortunately) needs new drivers floor and I've noticed a bit of rust in the drivers a panel. Not too bad for an oldie.

Going to give her a resto, paint her original. Not sure what to do with the engine, rebuild the 850 or warm up the 998 in the shed.

At least I'll get to learn how to weld :)

When she's done she'll join my 1800 on the road.

Ian

Welcome Ian...yeah the early cars were made of real steel, they can be in better nick than much later cars.

Hello all.

I've been lurking on the site for a while, checking out the for sale section, and seeing how much mini's are going for (ebay too). I think I fell into the spam filter for new members, but have clawed my way out (thanks Dad).

I'm looking at buying myself a round nose to restore for my wife, something to have fun playing around with. Hopefully learn a few things rebuilding it. But its still a few months before I'm ready to buy anything, but I've been lurking to get ideas from others. My ideal would be something that's good mechanically, little to no rust, but needs body and interior work.

The slow hunt continues.

Hi CBB,

Welcome to Ausmini. Don't give up, the right mini will come along one day.

Hope you enjoy your time on here.

Cheers, Nick

Might just add to CBB's post that he is my son, who is living with his lovely wife in Adelaide.

Colum has been long associated with minis and race cars and spent a few of his early years playing in either the mud or the dust at Oran Park and Amaroo Park.

He is also the nephew of Kevin (1310/71).

Uncle Kevin on here too?

Dad would never let me drive his mini when I was younger, and am probably living a bit far away to drive it now. So I think its about time I get my own. Restore it along with my XM falcon ute.

How tricky is it to get an aftermarket air con installed into a mini?

I could probably come up with a few stories, but since he's seen me growing up, I think he'd have way more on me then I'd ever have on him.

His uncle drives a Renault. Nothing could be more embarrassing than that.

There are multiple Renaults - all shapes and sizes. Whats more embarrassing is that the sale of the lone mini helped finance another Renault.

He doesn't have a white one with a green stripe though.
