and make sure to get the doctors cert for the uni. you'll get one easy peasy... sh!t i used to rock up and just say i was stressed and bingo, extension.

fiji

our uni has just tighten there extension policys and it doesent work like that anymore. no way would that happen. last time i had a docs cert, which i have of course for the moment, it only includes up till the certain date they give u, so for me its a week at this stage. so if the assignment is due the day after the docs cert finishes, its not covered, i had the issue last yr and complanined big time, but it doesent work like that. really stupid. so technically in ur time off u still have to b working hard at it, becuase if its due after ur cert, it doesent count, u dont get extra time. (hope u get wat i mean) i kno its ****ed tell me about it, but ive tried and thats they way they have it at QUT no exceptions :'(

holy crap - that is a long way to be pushed!! so you were stopped there in the parking lane and it ran into you? Mini's being so light I guess it just picked you up and pushed you along instead of doing too much damage. I heard a similar story of someone getting hit in the side by a small truck doing about 80k's, the mini just slid along, the person I was talking to had been sitting in the back seat on the side where the truck hit, no serious injuries

I guess you're so lucky there wasn't another car in front of you, otherwise it could have been all over - mini sandwich :(

slow down with trying to sort out the mini, it can wait, get your health and uni under control

glad your ok, which is the main thing.
what did the driver of the car say? was he/she appologetic? or just on the phone txting or something?
i would send a letter to the council if i were you. if this has happened before and it is a known accident spot, then council has an obligation to do something about it otherwise its negligence.

OMG!!!! thats just crazy!! especially the distance you were punted

This seems to be reaching a crisis point in terms of minis being rear ended.

Panthersteve's bingle made me think about getting a high mount stop light. Lockie91's accident has cemented the idea.

Now I was thinking how to do it on a van, then I remembered Jill200sx's van with the lancer spoiler. And so the search begins

6 inch red LED light bar is the go, one for a motorbike , or maybe two , one in each corner of the rear window, scroll down to the 6 inch one.

http://www.pashnit.com/product/signal_d ... _bars.html

LED's hardly draw any power and would do the job nicely

Heres my van with a 95 (TR - TS model) magna wagon spoiler which has 3 brake lights in it.

And my clubby with the wing light from a 97 hyundai excel, the curve of the light nearly matches the window.

My clubby got a rear ender once too but i was able to fix it, a girl nearly rear ended me recently which prompted me to find a brighter brake light, i have noticed people react quicker to my braking now.

Try to take it easy Lockie, no good you getting worse from stress. Look after yourself first, material things come second.

Doesn't even look like his air bag deployed. Bugger the tyre absorbing the impact, you should have filled the boot with bricks and made him feel it... What was the reason for him hitting you anyway? Just didn't see the bright red car in front of him?

I completely agree! I had a similar crash years ago. Early January, 2000. I'd had my Mini on the road - my first Mini - for three weeks, and an idiot did similar. The differences were that it was on a four lane road (so he could've gone left lane and gone around me - there was no one else in our lane for at least 500m behind us - yes, there was that much visibility), my idiot braked (locked 'em up), and I saw and heard him coming, and started accelerating away before he caught me. My idiot had also had heart bypass surgery 6 weeks earlier...

It was just after this that I heard a statistic claiming that red cars - my car was cherry red with a white roof - had the most accidents. I can't help but think that's partially due to the lesser contrast of brake lights against red paint compared to brake lights against, say, yellow paint. :? I might have to join the people putting in a high mount brake light (even though my current Mini's blue).

Thankfully, given I was accelerating away, my car was no only driveable, but cost less than $1k to fix, and we didn't have any major injuries. The biggest frustration was that it took the bloke 10 weeks to figure out he had an excess to pay before anyone would fix my car. Thankfully I worked only about 300m from home. And my other frustration was that, when I collected the car, the idiots at the panel beaters hadn't bothered to turn off the fuel tank tap - I found out by running out of fuel, then finding a puddle of fuel in the spare wheel well.

All the best with this - sure, it's a big set back, but it's only time. Hopefully it's only time - hopefully you make a full recovery. And make sure you find your way to a solicitor... Legal expenses are the responsible driver's problem. His insurance for your injuries might help fund the drinks for the working bee, on top of your own out-of-pocket medical and living costs. Good work on the photos, too - great idea to get the photos while the sawdust and debris are still there, to show just how big a shunt it was. :)

I have a 6inch LED brake light in my rear window too so that people react a little quicker. But it shouldn't be necessary. People should be aware of their surroundings while driving and keep a good braking distance etc etc. Is it really that hard to notice an object getting 'larger' as you approach it?

It looks like it was dark so the car colour shouldn't matter, and Lockies other car is blue and thats ben rear ended too :?

In the mean time I'm looking out for some bloody bright l.e.d. lights for the current brake lights. anyone know of where I could purchase some?
