On this day (March 23) 1961 the Morris 850 was released in Australia.

So HAPPY 49th AUSTRALIAN BIRTHDAY to our favorite little car that we all call Mini.

Next year is the Mini's 50th year in Australia and to celebrate the Sunshine Coast Group of the MOCQ want you to help us make sure we all have fond memories of this once in a lifetime event.

I wonder why it took so long to release them there, maybe there were concerns as to how it would cope in your conditions?

There were Mini's in NZ in 1959 but the release was in early 60 I think.

One of my mates from 40 years ago worked in R&D at Zetland, he told me back then they hammered them around the countryside a lot before release.
