the piston in the carby is probably stuck

What's the condition of the plug tips? Might tell if it's running lean or rich. Any smoke of any kind?

Edit: may as well brush and gap the plugs while you're there

plugs are brand new and gapped correctly..

i got it going slightly better today.. but runs nice when i put my hand over the back of the carby.. what does this mean? i dont have any air leaks anywhere else that i can find......

Whats the compression like :?:
Have you checked cam timing/position :?:

sounds like the carby is just too lean,,, if it`s off a 998 & youre trying to make it run on a 1275???

if thats the case then it`s just too lean,,, & you`ll need a richer mixture needle to suit the bigger engine,,, & Maybe a stronger carby dash-pot spring too

Does it stall when its running & you completely cover the carby intake?
