Wanting to confirm that I have a Mini S as it does not actually say it on the Compliance Plate.

Using this as a reference it looks like it is http://www.minis.com.au/page5/page5.html

Engine number starts with 99H889AJH
Body number on Compliance Plate starts with XNHAB18Y

Although it just says Leyland Mini on the plate.
Should it have an S as well?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I too have a mini S but does not say S on the compliance plate. However over on the other side near the radiator mine says mini S on the tyre data panel.

I wouldn't bother with that online "how to identify your Mini" list as it is full of mistakes.
Your car is a late Mini S built after they changed the code system in April 78.

The code letter that says what level of trim (Mini, Mini S or Mini LS) is the third letter. On your car it is a H which equals the Mini S.

Don't worry about the lack of an S on the compliance plate as they didn't bother stamping the different models only the car at that stage of production. (The 1275LS only says Mini too)

Thanks for the info.

Yep it is a June 78.
I have had the car for nearly a year and I only just noticed today that there was no S on the Compliance Plate.

Happy now.

Of course yours is an S. It has one of my ignition kits fitted to it so it is "S" for Special.
