My favourite was the very junior highway patrol ocifer who asked "why isn't the wiper auto park working? i could defect you for that"

i replied "mate, this is a 1966 Mini Minor. it has two speed wipers - full speed and no speed. they stops where they stops when you put them into no speed"

hwy ptrl "oh"

Oh and I had someone come up to me and say: "Why didn't you just buy a BMW Mini instead?"

Sooooo many people ask me that

Even when I was off loading the minis off the car trailer into the backyard the annoying thing next door said "You're a girl, are you seriously gonna work on them? You'll get dirty" followed by her rolling her eyes saying "Why don't you just go buy a new one" Image

I was also asked "Is it legal to drive those things on the road?"

I've also had people think that the Mini and VW Beetle are related...

I said to them: I don't think either the British or the Germans would like hearing you say that.

I tell people that I have Mini's. Alot ask "the new one?" I reply with "the old one, of course".

Isn't really Mini related, but I was pulled over at night by the coppas (didn't get a fine). I remember him saying "why do you have those lights on the dash?" I replied with "it's a CD player".

My best ever comment was "where does the battery go" when someone was trying to disconnect it..!!!

I also seem to get "How many horse power do the stripes and racing numbers give it" but I think somehow that they ask that in jest.

That clubmans are better than roundies.... kidding calm down...

Seriously, not really convince me, bit it's a mini story none the less.

PO once took the monster truck to a brake place to get some work done. Starter button is still on the floor, but the ignition switch is on the pannel with the light switches and is newer and has a start position if you turn it far enough. Of course not having a solenoid it does nothing.

Anyway some goose hopped in it and couldn't get it to start. Deciding he wasn't twisting the key hard enough, he kept twisting. Evenually the lock barrel turned inside the panel... he kept twisting.... untill the wires connected to it were all bound up and broke off. Guess who got the call to "come fix the mini". Unfortuanely I wans't there when the PO showed him the starter on the floor. No doubt I wouldn't have been as polite.

Thinking I leave the floor starter in my 850. Going to put a Clubby steering column in so I have a lock on there, but still have the floor starter just incase someone decides they want to hot wire it (ya normal theif won't know what to do!).

Most of the time, mini thieves know what theyre dealing with...... cos they steal em for parts. Although a clubby column would confuse em a bit.

Why not wire it so that you need to hold the Morris starter button while turning the Leyland key??? If they do one and not the other, it wont crank..... unless they know how to jump the starter solenoid
