My first rebuild, during final assembly of the ancilliaries, I nearly dropped the dizzy drive shaft into the gear box - 5/16" UNF bolt not long enough.

Managed to retrieve it somehow with a piece of wire.

After that, I started believing in God & nearly went to church.

Building A series engines is not rocket science and can be done by anyone that has a decent set of tools and some mechanicial knowlage, hell they were released in 1951 so there really not that hard. Having a good releationship with the machine shop and getting the machining done properly is a critical factor with any engine so arm yourself with as much information as you can to tell the machinist, that way they do all the hard work for you and you get to enjoy the jobs of pulling it apart & putting it back together. I learnt valuable engine knowlage by pulling hundreds of engines apart over the years, not just mini engines, and to this day I still enjoy building different engines (eg, my P76 engine). Building mini engines comes naturally to me as I think I know most of the answers, the ones I dont know I ask knowlagable people that have been building mini engines much longer than I. There are plently of people here that can give you good advice when you get stuck and I am sure would be happy to lend a helping hand, If we dont have the answers then there are plently of good mini repair business that will. Give it a go, you will love it and have the satisfaction that you did it yourself.

There's a certain satisfaction in starting an A series you just built, watching the oil pressure and temp gauge come up, and listening to all those harmonious noises within. :P
Twin cams & 16 valves.... who needs em. Been there, done that.
