You press the wheel studs out, then put the drive flange in a lathe, check it for runout, and machine the front face down to the shoulder (that lump in the middle) until it's exactly 65mm diameter. You only take a thou or two off the mounting face to clean it up.

Then put the Honda disc in the lathe, set it up true and bore the inside of the flange to 65mm diameter. It's now a neat fit on the drive flange.

Press the studs back into the drive flange and that bit's done. 8)

<edit> no, you don't alter the back of the drive flange at all. Bearings etc remain stock.

Hey guys
I have found an 82 prelude and was wondering if these discs and calipers would be ok? Are they much different to the civics? I can get them for about 90-100. They aren't stub axle are they? so the discs should just unbolt? Also, i found which i think is about a 90' accord front cut. Would this motor(i think is 2.2l 4cyl) fit in a clubman like the 1600 civic motors? i could get the whole front cut, brakes, engine gearbox for about 1500. what do people think?
cheers

Another question lol. Is it possible to get the mini hubs redrilled to a honda stud pattern? ie 4x100. Or would this be pretty costly? Are there any problems associated with this?
cheers

I made a jig to redrill the Honda discs to 4x 4" PCD pattern, I guess you could go the other way in theory, but the Honda uses 12mm studs/bolts, and there is not enough meat in the Mini drive flange for this. And what wheels would you run?

Easier to drill Mini pattern holes into the Honda discs.. 8)

DRMINI, howd you go with our new set of discs you redrilled last weekend, did you get anymore pics or? my mate is still making my plates i think, havnt seen him since tuesday, id imagine he has them done by now, cant wait to bolt them all up and see how well they actually work..

oh and also.. it looks like you have the same calipers as me, the ones with the O ended brakeline with the bolt going through the middle into the caliper.. i noticed when i got home, that a standard mini brake hose feels a bit loose untill the end, but tightens up firm, are yours the same or?

thanks :)

Yes they are just a little loose but do bolt up OK. I've done 3 sets now no probs at all.

I grind the little lugs off the caliper to give more spanner clearance.

USE 2 COPPER WASHERS! The thread on the Mini hose does not go right to the shoulder and with 1 washer they can leak. (Mini & Metro calipers are counterbored to clear this thread, but Hondas are not). 8)

Yeah take it easy- small cuts at low speed. It's tough stuff and the drive flange is not real rigid.
Don't take more than a few thou off the front face where the studs come thru- if you thin it here it weakens the flange.

Will the civic conversion still actually fit under standard mini 10" rims? Or only under 10" mags? (assuming discs are machined to 7.9" and all that). Has anyone got actual dimensions for the caliper bracket yet?
cheers

dude, read up a bit before you ask questions. these brakes will NOT fit under standard 10" steelies, you need mags with the correct offset and go back a few pages, i tihnk and there's plenty of pics of the caliper brackets and dimensions

good luck :)

yes they could be made to fit, but using bigger spacers (40mm) and studs, but this would put more stress on the wheel brearing.

And, you would be illegal on track width. Not worth the trouble, using stock 3-1/2" steelies. Oz is awash with good S/H Contessa mags. And they are round, unlike all the steelies..

you could always hunt down a set of hb torana steel rims. I've been told they have the same PCD. cant verify that though.

Have now just had our first set (second set made) blue plated(mod plated) and all is legal 8) . Now building a third and blue plating them.
