I had a variety of screws that fixed my piano hinge on my rear window to the B pillar (5 each side).

Various places say they should be #6 x 1/2" but the majority of ones I have are a tiny grub type self tappers (phillips countersunk head).

Should they be #6 x 1/2" or the little ones? Where do I get the little ones from? And what size are they?

Also, the two screws that hold the window latch to the rear pillar what is that size supposed to be?

A parts catalogue would be accurate for what should be there. The thing is the screws are little and original ones easily lost, the other thing is over time if the windows have been out and in the holes could have been stripped and that why people go to different screws.

Why not save a heap of trouble and drill the self tappers out and replace them with rivet nuts? You'll never have an issue again with finding the correct or properly fitting screws.

I also blame my Dad for me being 6' 1" - not really the optimum height for driving a Mini.

They're supposed to be countersunk type screws to prevent pinching the rubber seal in the small gap which remains once the window is shut. Between the hinge and the body is a small rubber strip I believe. I'm not sure what its purpose is however. The countersunk screws are easily replaced luckily.

Not a bad idea for the window catch to the body mount. Sometimes these holes are mauled by people jamming whatever screw comes to hand.

I'm refurbing so any oversize holes will be filled and redrilled to the correct size.

Would small pop-rivets work?

Out of sight, out of mind?

Those little pk's are a bitch -holes easily stripped, not designed to removed/replaced that often.

There is no way I am using pop rivets

For one thing, if you ever had to take the window off the end of the pop rivets would fall inside the B pillar and rattle about!! That would drive me mad.

For another thing - it would look crap.

Nah - if you are going to do a job, do it right, do it once.

The thing about filling the holes & re-drilling them, how can you be sure you'll get them edzachary in the right spot?
