Ive just put the motor back in my roundy, and im trying to engage the gears atm. I got the car in neutral, and i can get 2nd and 4th and reverse, but it doesnt go far enough forward to get 1st and 3rd. Is there a trick to get this to work?
Ive consulted mr haynes, but he misses the topic enitrely. Can anyone help me out?

Sounds like one of the knuckles on top of the diff housing is a spline out. I think it is the one closest to the radiator and looking at it from the top the shaft need to be rotated 1 spline clockwise (if that makes sence).

Makes perfect sense, i had a play with the one under the gear stick, but the ones on the housing will be a job for more time.

They can be 'accessed' with the motor in but they can be 'trying'. I'd suggest putting a mark across them with a paint pen or the like before you disturb them so at least you know where you were. And your most welcome.

When playing with splined joints such as the knuckles i like to get a screwdriver, line it up so it will put a mark on both the knuckle and the top of the shaft and give it a tap so it leaves a permanent mark that is precise so long as you lined it up right.

I will also agree on the spline & knuckle. Been their before also..Make sure those bolts are done up as much as you can get them and make sure the engine is cold

Before you do that - do make sure the engine mounts are correctly fitted and not broken or misaligned. Same goes for the upper engine stays.

You dont need much movement there to make selecting gears difficult.
