came accross this young lady broken down right in the middle of the road blocking traffic in busy brisbane traffic, so blocked the road with my van and stoped to help :)

She claimed she didn't know what was wrong, and the car had been continually just shutting it's self down. My thoughts went to alot of bad things when I heard this.... Opened the boonet and didn't have to look very hard.... coolant everywhere.... one quick peak around the engine bay and the bottom raditor hose was hard up against the fan belt. Not much more needed to explain, but it had torn a hole right the way through the hose...

Then she tells me the car was JUST serviced a few days ago, so that explains it more.... turns out the guy replaced the hose in the service, but the idiot had used the wrong type. It was obvious as it had been wedged in there, and the bends didn't suit the space....

One goes to think what sort of mechanic he was.... told her that she would have to make sure he paid up for the damages, as he was definetly liable....

I asked her how the car had been running, and she said it had been running hot for the last few days since, and a funny sqeeky noise followed by smell of rubber and then temperature gauge reads HOT today, and engine shut it self down completely....

I showed her the hose, and she thought i was pretty smart :) haha i was like okk.... Told her that she might be without a car for a while and that it could be costly given the engine had overheated serveral times and shut itself down...

Pushed her off the road for her, gave her my number and was on my way :)

Deed done :)

good on you for helping.... so many people just drive past

a few weeks ago I was driving home, approaching a busy 2 lane roundabout behind a commodore. We were both turning right and as we went around I could see the lady driving the commodore was swearing, and I could hear the starter motor going. She rolled to a stop about 1/2 way around with me behind her. I jumped out and got ready to push, and saw there were 5 young guys in a car pointing and laughing at her, their windows were open so I called out "hey, you lot get out and help", and the driver said "yeah right" and sped off. So I left my brick where it was, pushed her car through the roundabout and up on to the grass verge, and then went back to get the mini... all the while no-one thought to just block the traffic and wait 30 seconds

sounds about right mate.. I did a similar sort of thing, when a chick had driven her car through some flooding water and it had stalled. No one was willing to help but just stair and watch, so I just blocked the road with my parents 4WD, and pushed her off the road.. I find if I block the road with my car from behind, push the person off the road, the traffic awaiting seems sympathtic for me to move my car when I come back some minutes later puffed and outta breath.. I also don't rush back, because I don't see any need for it...
