It's primarily down to wheel choice.
And then you have the issue of whether it's actually "beneficial" by running that wheel, versus going up a size in disc diameter.
I've seen plenty of Nb historic guys putting down some wicked times with almost standard Cooper S (7.5") brakes.

You can go vented 7.5-7.9" 4 pot setup from various manufacturers?

I am running machined down 8.4" vented discs to 7.9" with Mini Spares 4 pot calipers under 10x6 Minator rims.

but not many wheels will allow them to fit inside.
all comes down to how "clean" the inside of the rim is.
