How does this rule relate to cars with Victorian club permits?

I've competed with a working steering lock in the Moke, no issues.

I should have just asked you straight up, as this is the same event. They didn't like my mid 80's 323 having a lock because it wasn't registered. They didn't stop me running, just suggested I get ridda it.

On my Seca I simply put a dymo tape sign on the dash above the ignition that said "Steering Lock Disabled" and they never asked again after that.

The other way around it is to say you don't want to remove it because you migt want to register it again.

For what it's worth blokes, a Club Permit is not a registration, it's a Permit to drive the car under limited conditions.

The wording of the CAMS rules is interesting, as last time I looked the bit of Bureacratic BS on steering locks required them to be disabled on all cars "except those registered for unlimited road use."

By definition, only a full registration allows the car to have "unlimited road use".

It may be that the changed wording is to remove some ambiguity. If so, I reckon it's created more.

My personal take on the matter is how can it possibly be important in Club level motorsport? In normal driving I'd love to see the statistics of failed steering locks causing incidents. I'm betting there haven't been many, and even fewer in racing conditions. I cant see why the restriction is there, personally.

Like all these things, you're at the mercy of the particular scrutineer on the day. (And most times arguing is just not worth the stress!)

just pull it off... its easier to do in a mini then some cars.. although your scrutineer would have to be an ar*e hole to ping you for it... they seem to manage more often then not

Well it's easy enough done, I have an early steering column... but when I use this car on road, which under circumstances I will be allowed, it will need to be locked and left at some stage... meaning I have less security than a standard car.

It's just more work that's not required I guess.
