I can beat that.. I tipped over the kids' "climbing castle" in the back yard the other week, and discovered a family of half a dozen big, fat juicy redbacks... Must remember to check that more often...

Have spent time hotwiring Hetty. After I couldn't get her to start I found I had heaps of spark so I checked everything from scratch. Just got her to fart and beltch into life by pouring petrol down her throat, guess the carby needs a clean :D got some really nice flames out of the header pipes too.

Discovered my rear sub-frame was too rotted to use. :(

If anyone has one or can tell me where to look for Victorian mini wreckers that would be helpful.

Started pulling the front brakes apart and ended up stripping the drum cover screw.

They are so full of brake dust and rust, its going to take a lot of work cleaning them up

Coming home from a motorkhana yesterday the engine started a loud clatter clatter type noise, I got home and listened to it properly and it sounded just like a big-end gone... I flipped the fan belt off and the noise was still there, so not the alternator or water pump... I went to bed early, took my wife's car to work, then picked up the kids from school and did a couple of hours work at home.

Before tea, I went out to listen to the noise again, started it up, noise was still there so I turned if off again. By chance I thought I'd just wiggle the harmonic balancer - I loctite the bolt on, so I doubted very much that it was loose, but to my surprise the trigger wheel for my ignition was loose!

So I've taken the radiator etc. out, harmonic balancer off and the holes have enlarged slightly and the countersunk screws won't grip it anymore. I dug up a couple of shakeproof washers and put the trigger wheel on with them, and put the HB on, started it up and no noise other than the screws scraping on the timing cover

I need to make a spacer up and it'll be OK again :D

I won the motorkhana though 8)

re-gapped my piston rings and assembled them the right way this time!

removed the wiper motor, clean it all up, painted it, re-lubed it all, and refitted it back on the car. much better.

begun matching bolts to their locations on the engine.

First time i've been able to get my hands on her in MONTHS. :D
After moving in to what you can see is rather limited shed space!
Image Image

Still I somehow managed to get the rear subframe out. Hopefully tomorrow I can strip / paint both subframes!

Also to note it makes me really appreciate the shed space i had out in the country! (both a triple and a single garage on the property). What a precious commodity workshop space is! .. If there isn't already a 'post your workspace' thread on here we should make one, so we can envy the lucky ones, and well, at the very least everyone can go 'at least i have more than minti!'
