Saw a old Jag the other day with the Yellow/Red Triplex windscreen sticker, looked cool. I have seen them on Minis but have been told they were not fitted to Aus Cars.

However if you look closely at old bathust photos you can see them on some cars in the centre of the windscreen.

So wots the truth?

Its most likely that the photos of the minis at bathurst are of english built imported coopers/cooper S's that would of still had there original windscreens. I do not belive that Australian built cars had the decal. Post the photo so we can have a better look at the cars.

Below is Tony Fall Bathurst 1967, that would have to be a Aussie car wouldn't it.

Also the Mk11 featured in TME (the yellow one) has the sticker both in it's restored form and in a period shot of the car.

There are a few seen in the ad for Auto pics often on the insde cover of TME, car 11 and the green lightweight.

I'm fairly certain Oz cars did have them from the factory & I would guess many owners would have removed them and maybe some dealers too during pre-delivery.

One of the rules for Bathurst at the time was a compulsory laminated windscreen.
The Cooper S came stock with a laminated screen but maybe the addition of the sticker could have been to alert the scrutineers that they did have the correct screen and maybe also to advertise the screens (in a way that would neatly get around the no-advertising rules at the time)

Or the stickers may have come with the windscreens and been used as a sign that the correct screens were being fitted.

the yellow bathurst car in TME is mine.I have been restoring cooper s' for many years. The triplex windscreen was factory fitted to cooper s' in australia and yes they were fitted with the sticker. I previously owned a one owner tamarisk green MK2 police pack cooper s still fitted with its original triplex screen and still had its triplex sticker. The car went on to win RACQ restored car of the year in 1998 among many other concourse events. There are numerous pics of locally produced s's with the sticker in place. Check mini minor down under book.

PS I currently have a couple of original triplex screens as well as one in the car. They clearly state LAMINATED. No need to put on a sticker to prove it as well.

So the sticker WAS advertising!

Well...yes.... if they stuck a sticker on 'em. Of course quite unreadable.
