I push started the little old car this morning.......starts very easily......
And the rest of the day the starter worked. :D

Hmm sounds like the bendix was jammed then.

I'd be popping it out for a look to make sure the spring on the end isn't broken, or the bendix all gooped up.

If it does it too you again, put it in third gear and rock the car back and forth and it will un-jam.

It is not a long term solution but will keep you moving.
