Yep thanks Chris, that's a good read, I did a few Sat night rallies myself back then.
But only as a driver- after getting badly wrapped round a tree in a Mini in `65, my taste for hanging on as navigator went out the window!

Echo valley Hill Climb in Toowoomba, Qld, was one of the best dam hill climbs ever!!!

My first run there was when i was 12 years old ,,,& took 3rd outright in my dad`s motorkhana special , this was after the CAMS officials decided that i was too young for motorkhanas at the Helidon Qld motorkhana champs (after i`d been doing em since i was 8 years old --go figure) They came to that motorkhana specifically to stop me racing, there was a petition & 2 people (out of 60 odd) didn`t sign it so i couldn`t race, we then packed up & on the way home we pulled into one of those fruit stalls to grab some cheap fruit, when all of a sudden Tom Poots (legend off road buggy racer & good friend of dad`s) came along with his buggy in tow, on his way to Echo Valley hillclimb,,,we tagged along & was the best dam thing that ever happend to me & my racing,,,HA!!! to those CAMS officials,,,stopping me run a motorkhana & there i go to a hillclimb with way more speed & danger & whooping nearly everyone except dad & Tom Poots :-) :-) :-) You might be able to tell how choooffed i was & still am about that,,,Barstard CAMS officials stopped me running in 2 more championship events after that as well, Mongrells!!!!!!!!!!

ah well, you get that hey? :-)

Noosa is awsome !!!

Mt cotton is wicked fun !!!

& Mountain View hill climb at Grafton is excellent especially for a mini as the whole top section is a go kart track :-)

sorry, can`t remember times very well, but i`ve done a 49 sec run in my road mini with old hard baldy falkens on at Mt Cotton,,, will definately obliterate that with my twin cam turbo monaco tho :-) (hopfully) ,,,

& i did a 54 sec run at Grafton in the roady too, but that was with hoosiers tho.

will try to hit some of the hillclimbs down south once the Monaco is up & running tho,,,might need you guys to give me some directions to get to them :-)

will definately be putting an application for invitation to the Mt Buller Hill Climb next year tho,,,will probly hit the hill climb then stay for another week & do the Down Hill Mountain Bike Nationals after that, just came back from there last week , took 2nd in the Masters(old farts) Down Hill series,,,Yay to me !!! :-)

Dam, i can dribble some sh!t hey?

happy easter everybloody :-)

2004 Old Info.........don't know if the links still work...but google on SDMA...and you willl probably strike paydirt.....

The Southern District Motorsport Association (SDMA) is having it's next club hillclimb in a couple of weeks. I thought I'd advertise it in case anyone was interested in competing or just checking it out.

Date: 18th of April 2004
Location: Fairbairn Park, Sutton Road (next to the old police driver training course).
Time: 9am-5pm

It really is great fun, and the costs are low. You compete in classes and the nature of the track means that mini's can be quite competive (my proud moment was beating a normally aspirated RX-7 last year). Car modifications are minimal as is equipment. You don't need to have a powerful car to have a good time, and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive.

If you're interested to see the variety of vehicles that compete you can go to my website and check out some photos. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~steve.byrne/

Email me if you want an entry form or any other details.

Cheers,

Steve Byrne

I saw a bit of cycling central and the downhill crazies...not enough protection and not enough horsepower to pull yourself out of trouble...give me a 460cc anyday!!

Yep Gaf....between Canberra and Queanbeyan in NSW ....very close by...its a good little hill.

Sorry Chris, you talking to me?? cause if you are talking to me!.....love Robert DeNiro...

Errggghh, if you are asking about Fairbairn Park...they run just about anything I think....another Chris I know has a Go Kart looking device with a rear mounted Honda 1100 on twin 40mm Dellortos.

Contact the SDMA and ask em...Cheers, Mick

Nah Gafmo,,,they don`t seem to show us old farts "Masters" (over 40s) class on TV,,,probly too cool for them ,,,& besides, it would probly just come out a blur we`re going so fast :-) (Not)... you`d think they would have shown me tho hey??? :-) being the 2nd fastest Masters DH rider in the country & all,,,Dam, they never get it right do they???,,,Plus i sponsored 10 x DH riders for these National meetings ,,,all wearing yellow & black "Team MiniMan Racing" Jerseys & still no dam coverage for us,,,HUh!!!!!! Bugger em!!!!!!! :-) i spose,,,i can`t really complain, i did get on the Targa Tassie TV special :-)

:-)

& pretty similar really,,,cars racing up hills & push bikes racing down hills,,,same sort of rush really :-) & besides that,,,both up hill & down hill car racing is basically what we do in Targa Tasmania & Bathurst,,,Man, there are some wicked down hill sections in Targa!!!!!!!!!! :-)
