OK I want to buy some monograde 140EP gear oil in 4L bottle, for filling Mini racks.
All the usual suspects (Repco, Supercheap etc) only seem to carry 85/90EP and sometimes 90/140EP multigrade and they want ~$40 for it.
Monograde is thicker under ambient conditions (in a rack), lubes the teeth better and is less likely to give leaks.

Anyone seen any for sale lately?

Gave Caltex Lubelink a ring.

He suggested BP, as they do one in straight 140W. Where you would get it I don't know, but possibly a BP servo if you don't know of any distributors ?

Caltex have one, but it is 85W-140

**EDIT** -After looking up the details, BP Gear Oil 140 EP is no longer manufactured.

find the distributor.... I bought my 130 grade oil from Repco, but it's a little shop that mostly does trade

Try Shell Omala 150. Blackwoods, Bakers or most Industrial Suppliers. Superior to most EP140's

If he went that, he may aswell go with the multigrade EP gear oil, as its going to have the same viscosity as an 85W EP gear oil.

Our equivilant is the Meropa 150, with a viscosity index of 101, the Thuban GL5 EP 85W140 is at an index of 97.

Fill it with Grease.

All Minis here had their original racks filled with oil.
Around half the Mini racks I've pulled apart that had had grease put in em, it had all gone hard. Rusty pinion bearings, scored rack & pad, etc. Useless...
OTOH ones that had some oil in were all pretty good.

Penrite still do a 140EP, but dunno who would stock it.

viscosity index is 96. So maybe it ain't that thick.. what temp is this taken at Maxi, any idea?

seems it only comes in 20L drums so that would be enough to last you a month of Sundays

i used penrite 90/140 in my 9"diff bought in 2 ltr bottle from thompsons spare parts qld

Just thinking Doc, would not EP90 with a molydisulphied additive be good enough to do the trick? EP140 would be like treacle in the cold?

I can get Shell Omala oil through work, (Blackwoods account) we need a 20L drum for some machinery anyway.
Which viscosity would compare to a 140EP monograde diff oil (at ambient temp)? There are a whole range of em here...

I'm going to have to be frugal with the oil I've got then... it's Castrol and says "STH 140 Straight Mineral Gear Oil" on the label.

Can't find it on the castrol website, tempted to go back to Repco and see if they still have it on the shelf
