Has anyone used a Gunson's Digital Gastester for setting up mixtures? It's a CO meter which measures CO content in your exhaust pipe, not hydrocarbons. By adjusting the CO% within the correct range of 3.5 - 4.5%, you can set the air/fuel ration at idle (around 14.7:1 for a standard engine). More accurate than Colourtune.
There are a number of exhaust gas analyser devices available that measure CO2, and other gases, as well as CO, but they cost over $3000. Gunsons costs around UKP75 in the UK.

I haven't tried one but did look at these a little while ago. For basic tune up stuff, these would be quote OK, but if you're trying to sort out needles etc because of engine modifications, then it won't cut the mustard.
Don't be too quick to write off colourtune. These are very good.
