G'Day guys,

Just after some reconmendations on the cheapest and easiest way to obtain an amount of nuts and bolts to use on the mini. I'm pretty sure I seen a kit on a foreign website, but now I cant locate it. Would prefer a kit, as oposed to making an order at a nut/bolt shop for so many of this and so many of that.

What type, make ( Rover etc.) and mAke of car are we talking about.

Make your own list, it won't take too long and you'll actually get to 'learn' your car even more. If you go to a decent fastener supplier with your list and asked for a quote most of them - in box quantities - I think you would be pleasantly surprised

Should be about 10 to 15% of 'Kit' sets and you'll have all of them instead of most.

Most of the factory fitted fasteners are zinc plated and grade 5 tensile.

Sorry if this is a hijack of the post, but talking about nuts and bolts, I've removed every nut and bolt from my shell and parts and they've all been rust affected.

I've wire cleaned them all but does anyone know a way to prevent rust from reforming. I was trying to save money by cleaning them up and not buying new ones.

Drop them in to be zinc plated. Make sure they are normalised in an oven after plating (the plater will usually do this anyway..but ask) and make sure you get the quote first. Barrel lating is cheapest, all the nuts and bolts are dropped in at once to be plated. Other techniques have the individual nuts and bolts wire tie up and dipped...nice consistant finish but lots more $$.

I ordered 2 kits of nuts and bolts and screws from sc parts in the UK in October last year, they arrived this week! Only 8 mths delay, never answered any of my emails then just sent them and debited my c/card

Mini King has sets of nuts, bolts, washers, screws, etc. in a plastic box. Most were collected from the floor of the BMC/Leyland production line, according to John Smidt. It's shown in his catalogue.

I'm with GT, you'd be suprised at the price of a new box at a fastners shop.

Otherwise, if you are after a bit of a random assortment you can pick through when you loose or damage something, go to a wrecker and ask if you can pick aa bunch from an imperial bolted car, they shouldn't charge much.

When i go to U-pull it (local diy wrecker) i always have a decent handful of little bits that might be useful end up in my tool box, they'll never know
