When you posted I was outside finding the problem and fixing it, so I guess technically you win, but I sorted it before seeing your post.

That was what really threw me. If I put power to the taillights, while earthing the body to the other side of the battery, it should not have worked and there should have been sparking going on, but it did work and there were no sparks.

It was one of those Grrrrrrr......moments when I finally found the problem by accident, having tried something similar beforehand.

I must admit, I did say a few choice words, like gosh and bother and blast!
