Moral of this story... if you don't know the history of the rod bolts, buy new ones!
Very nasty..!
Camshaft was busted clean in half too.... hard to see in pics. But the star drive oil pump survived.

Classic!

Got some good S rods out of the other 3 though eh? they sure "looked" good. Taking the block off the gearbox was like openning a pandora's box! 5 guys waiting to see what the heck poked a hole that big! You can see daylight through it lol

For Sale!!! $400 as is!!!

It's completely buggered in 3 places. There are actaully 3 cracks, one opposite this one and another crack on the gearbox, just underneath where the rod has "vibrated" after it let go!

Chong,

Hope the OTHER block was worth going to melbourne for!

Shame the crank wasn't salvagable out of that block.

It might be, given enough $$$. It's .010/.010 sizes.
Repco used to weld them up (30 years ago) with an automatic process then grind them back. I used to get VW ones done.
Probably easier to go find another. But hey, it's not cracked!!
ps. it's only a small journal one, so can't just grind it down.

Dave told me there is a repco workshop up in Gosford, we passed it on the way to kazjim's that day.

On an unrelated matter - I'm hoping to go to Karcraft for bits tomorrow. Did you say they weren't there on tues and thursdays last week?

No, I just said they would be shut for Easter break.
I won't be able to get there until Friday, probably.
