Today I pushed 'im out into the Sunshine (as we havent seen much of it lately). Removed the rear screen and parcel shelf. Found some more shoddy rust repairs by Previous Owner. Cleaned up the bog and rust bits that are now on the floor, then pushed 'im back inside.

Cheers,

Dicko.

Pulled out the front and rear seats, pulled out the front and rear vinyl flooring, cleaned up the rotten hairy underlay stuff, thought about wire wheeling the rusty floor bits - no, maybe another day, put front seats back and went for a drive.

I was going to pull the rack out, because I thought it was loose. But it's not, so it's staying in.
Looseness seems to be the LH wheel bearings, they've only done 130,000 miles since I put em in... New Timken kit going in this week.

I got a step closer to buildning my mini a new home to live in. Emtied the old shed, pull it down tomorrow and get ready for the slab to go down for the new garage in a few weeks. The best I could get away with was 4.5 x 10m. Its only for my mini though so not too bad.

After pulling out my old 1100 and putting in the rebuilt 1380 on Sunday found out l could not select any gears except reverse. So today pulled out the 1380 to locate the problem. The sleeve that houses the detent spring and ball near the selector shaft was sticking in the housing. Appeared to have a high spot. This stopped the selector shaft from engaging properly.Filed the high spot down. Now can select gears. Putting the motor back in next weekend.

Took the bonnet off the deluxe ready for the panel-beater tomorrow. He'll be replacing the vinyl stripes with painted ones. More importantly he's also fixing the hail damage to my GF's Cooper - the new roof skin finally arrived from Germany (it'll get a new bonnet too but they had those locally).

Today I fitted the (rear ones only) competition bump stops, and to make the car go at least 10MPH faster a nice alloy/red rocker cover. Also screwed off the old Clubman gear knob, and put on a MK I knob.

Started to assemble my Tech Edge 2Y1 wideband O2 kit and got a USB to Serial adapter working with Windows 7. These will be used to help tune the SU carb. See http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63746

Cheers

Jim

Last week or so I have washed the mini (second time in two years), Gave it a polish as well to boot. Looks lovely. I also fitted my new gear knob, its a speedwell jobie and it is nice and heavy. I had to use my tap and die set to make the threds work which was odd. I also worked on the wiring diagrams for putting the rover column and stalks into my mini. Im excited about my mini again and its the first time in what seems like a long time that I am. Weird.

I know how you feel, I'm getting quite excited as the car nears completion ready for it's RWC after a year off the road. :)

Replaced the battery in the Clubman as it had decided to stop assisting Lucas due to the cold.
Found the sticker on the top of the old battery was dated Feb 2002.
I guess I got my moneys worth with that one :)

I stripped down some spare sub frames to rebuild for my tired 850.
They haven't been under a car for over 15yrs and I was surprised to find that they must had been rebuilt at some stage because the rubbers and shafts are in perfect condition and still covered in grease. You gotta have a win sometimes. :D
A set of hi-lows, a brake overhaul, some new hubs for the 998 disks, a coat of paint and all should be good. 8)
