I'd like to know what torque settings should be used for the subframe mount bolts/nuts (if there is any specific settings) for 1978 Clubman

Front subframe :
Tower nuts (for pair of tower bolts)
Front bolt/nuts

Rear Subframe :
Bolts into heelboard
Bolts through floorpan

Also, I need to replace all the bolts so should all these bolts be high tensile?

I also blame my Dad for me being 6' 1" - not really the optimum height for driving a Mini.

The Tower Nuts should be nylocs so they should be tight, they cannot be set with a torque wrench.

All other Nuts/ Bolts for the front subframe should be 18-20 ft/lbs.

All rear Subframe to Body bolts and nut / bolt sets are also 18 - 20 ft/lbs.

I've never bothered to torque them, just make sure they are adequately done up.

The original fasteners were Grade 5 tensile (3 straight lines on the bolt heads) and these are fine.

the ones on my car are definitely not nylocs, they are standard nuts with a steel locking "tab" that goes underneath.

and the subframe has never been out of the car.

however it is an early mini, the later ones might have changed to nylocs. i couldn't tell you for certain though, as i don't own any wind-up window minis.

Yes early cars were fitted with normal nuts and these would have been torqued to 18 - 20 ft lbs. I don't know exactly when they changed to nylocs. The sheet metal thingy they put under these nuts has locktabs for the early cars.

<EDIT> There was also a brief time when Bolts were used in the towers in the Oz assembled Minis

re the 4 rear ones in the floor, I found they tend to come loose on my road car (even with new spring washers), and I got sick of retightening them.
They now have locknuts on em. I guess putting nylocs there would work too.
