I did an alternator conversion 20 years ago on my Lotus and my auto electrician recommended a particular Nippon Denso unit identifiable by a plate with lots of holes on the back. He said they were bulletproof. The one I bought was off a Daihatsu I think. Bought it 2nd hand for $25 and it hasn't missed a beat.

If I could work out how I would attach a photo.

Pete

Upload it to photobucket (Free and easy to make an account) www.photobucket.com

Once it's uploaded, you will have a gallery, hover the picture and it will bring up a list of links
Html, url, img code etc

You want the img code one.
Just copy paste that bit into a post.

In the last 25 years, Alternators like everything else have come a long way. The Nipon Denso unit you mentioned is very outdated today and I doubt if you can get any parts for it. If it was off a Charade of the early 80s it would only be 35 Amp and externally regulated. Not much of an improvement in my books. Alternators today are more compact and internally regulated, much easier to wire up.
