Just wondering how many people use cartridge oil filters these days compared to spin on filters?

Those that are using cartridge filters, what brand do you use?

Those that use Ryco cartridge filters, do you still find them missing the 2 seals?

The ONLY time I fit a cartridge type is for an original resto, otherwise spin on job for me.

The cartridge type are a PITA.

Yep, 100% agree here too. I have always tended to use Ryco spin-ons, but have been using other brands of late due to a possible quality control problem with the red-and-silver brand...

In years gone by I allways used the 850/Cooper S cartridge type housing with the felt filter so at each oil change you can pull the filter apart to see if there is any nastys. These days I use a spin on filter type but I make sure I use the filter head of a A+ engine with the larger type gasket flange. The std type filter head with its little thin gasket can blow the gasket out if you have lots of oil pressure/race engines etc. And I get the spin on filters from work, for free :D

On Slidey I use a billet alloy spin on filter head and use HardDriver synthetic filters. I also have a magnetic trap between the filter and the filter head. So yes I'd go with the spin on. :)

I use Valvoline cartridge elements on my two older cars, spin-on on the later ones. I don't find the cartidge type to be too much trouble but it is true that spin-ons are easier.

If I what the car to be original I will keep it cartridge
but I still may change to spin on as is really isn't that hard to change back to cartridge
but I do prefer spin on less oil leaks

Spin on for the A+ van and cartridge for the old 850.
When the 850 is rebuilt or replaced, a spin on will be the go.
