That would be my only current option....

I might have a dig around the garage and see if there's one sneaking away in my gasket spares...

If it's not stamped 'Made In England' then don't waste your time.

Just a thought as i had a simular problem

The valve guide hasn't pinched the valve and the rocker hasn't smacked the end of the valve tip while it was jammed The energy has to go some where, it can bend the valve, or mushroom the top.

Check the valve guide you my find its oval.

Mine had a very noticeable rattle at idle

Also you need to file the burr off the valve so you don't damage the valve guide when removing the valve

Good luck

Thanks, I'll make sure I get that burr cleaned up and check the guides while I'm there, its not much extra work to do so. I'm just draining the coolant now and I've got the carbs off, I'll pull the rest apart tomorrow and then I'm off to go and drag Josh through Cadbury. :P

All apart now and yes the valve is cactus and the guide showing more wear than a 3000 k old valve stem should. I'll push it out and put a new one in there as well while I am at it....

Davo111 couldn't ignore a trip to visit Josh at Miniimports, Cadbury and Link Auto either 8) Tomorrow will be like a tour bus trip to three of the most interesting places in Melbourne :P

Are you talking about the Cadbury factory in Ringwood? I drive past there every day on my way to work, if you are then I want to see too!

I got all the bits I needed from Josh today at Miniimports including a BK450. Hes had them around for a few years and are stamped in the UK in any case. Then we trundled down to Cadbury. They wouldn't let Josh in as he didn't have a valid card, so being good mates we left him at the fence while Davo and I whipped in to buy some chocolates ourselves :P We got him one or two freddo frogs however to keep him happy..

The valve is now in as well as a replacement guide and has been lapped in to suit. Heads back on with the new gaskets. Just got to attach the carbs and exhaust back on and all is well again..

Who knew Josh was developing an overhead cam mini engine?

So I have one of three thoughts here, correct me on what would be the most likely.

1. The gap on that rocker perhaps closed up and over extended the valve

2. The valve stem is improperly hardened

3. Carnies (Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands..)

4. Other unspecified.

....... :)

................. Just putting it out there.....

I think that you might be onto something with number 2......

I don't thing they would have been properly hardened.....
.
.
.
.
Because they wouldn't have been hardened at all :P

They make them out of hard steels and steel alloys.... even good normal valves, you can file the tips on.... honest :)

Sometimes the backs of the valve faces become work hardened (especailly on the exhaust) but they aren't hardened from the factory...

They're left in an annealed state...

You can turn them pretty easy with HSS so they can't be that hard.

BUT having said that,,,, the state of your valves,,,, that was something special

Love that overhead cam motor.... what do you reckon its going to be good for Mick? 160-170? (60-70) :)
