I would of wound it over by hand only the bloody thing is too tight! , i nearly felt sick when i relised what i'd done and i dead set thought i'd be pulling the motor down for sure, but let me tell you Simon there was no way i'd fire it up untill i was satisfied that it was ok and there was no tiny bits left in there or any damage to the piston.

As a kid, while playing cowboys & Indians with my brothers, i climbed up ontop of an outside toilet (thunderbox) in a Cylone,,, i shot both my brothers but the wind picked me up & threw me off the toilet & i landed on my back, ontop of a pile of mini engine blocks,,,with their studs sticking up

i now have a puncture wound pattern of the mini head stud pattern diagonally across my back

pretty dumb

I'd just replaced the head on my Mk2 Jag. It was an automatic and it was parked about a metre from a wall.
I reached inside to start the car and it instantly screamed to full revs.
The delay in the automatic gave enough time for a young teenage girl to jump aside before the car hit the wall.
No harm done but all the "what ifs" can play on your mind.
It was an automatic but I just can't remember why it started in gear.

Had the rear of the Holden HQ V8 up on stands and was replacing the shockers with inflatable adjustable shockers - undid one side and the nothing happened - undid the other side and the whole rear axle assembly dropped to 1/2" off my chest  Thank God I hadn't taken the wheels off.

Note to self :- support AXLE when removing shockers

I drilled through the Hydro line under the back seat of my Mini Deluxe while attepmting to fit some box speaker brackets. I gave myself a nice green shower. Paul Skinner (who fixed it) still laughs at me about that every tiime I see him, and it was almost 20 years ago now. :D

Dumbest thing I've done all week...

Lots of research went into finding the right size socket for the rear wheel hub castle nut. Or so I thought!

I figured Image (turns out the image is what i've been looking for size wise but the bolt i've got) was a 1-5/16"AF, so went out of my way trying to find said socket around canberra, and today I found one $15. Bought it and went home to try it and found out that NO its no way near this size but a tad smaller than 1" (15/16" Maybe?).

So, whats the dumbest thing you've done this week?

I did the same thing.

I also managed to undo a left hand thread castle nut by turning it the wrong way(the normal way) until it came off... Its amazing what you can if you put your mind to it!

Fitting lower front adjustable arms recently, they have the same part number for both sides and look identical. Got the inner joint fitted but the bloody thing wouldn't go over the lower ball joint.
Took a hammer to it, then a bigger hammer, then tried the trolley jack.......................
Then realised that the TAPER fit ball joint won't go through the smaller taper hole in the arm first
Luckily no damage done, just needed a little rubbing with emery cloth to remove a very light burr.
