They built the K from 69 to 71 and in Australia the 69 had no plates, the 70 has a big square plate and the 71 has the smaller rectangular plate. (give or take a month or two each way!)
I don't know what plates were fitted to the NZ cars.

Were Mini Ks exported to NZ?

I know Mini De Luxe were, and Mk1 Cooper S, but not sure about Mk2 Minis - K or Cooper S.

Cheers,
Watto.

The car resides overseas and the current owner bought it from someone who had bought it in N.Z.

Here are the details on our Mini K which was bought brand new by my Mum, then left to me and I have passed it on to my daughter.

1970 Mini K - Bought new from Gould's Motors, 516 High St. Northcote Vic.
Colour: Sugarcane (Beige)
Car No: YG2S1 6883
Engine No: 10YCTAH 7478
Reg No: KTA 831
Ignition Key No: 896
Registered on the 4/11/70
Build date 4/70 so manufactured April 1970.

Hope it is a bit of help in your research.

Forgot about this thread, just checked out the date on the ID plate.
It was manufactured 4/70 so April 1970. Rest of the info is in the above post of mine.

The change in plate was to reflect the new ADR's that the car would comply to. As it was built in DEC 1970 there is a fair chance it was sold in 1971 when compliance to these ADRs's were mandatory.
I have seen a 10/70 car with small plate, burst proof doors, rear seatbelts etc.
The latest K I have seen is 6/71. Aubergene and I believe a special order car as Clubbys were in full swing by then.
Ben.

The 10/70 car with burst proof doors etc is interesting Ben. My K with burst proof doors, large plate, rear seatbelts etc is a 12/70 car and there are other 12/70 K's (Anton's K eg) with the earlier doors. Is it possible that cars with both type of doors went down the production line concurrently? I also have a 11/70 Mk 2 S that has the earlier doors.

regards, Steve
