I have seen some car with a rubber strip along the back channel of the engine bay, where the bonnet sits.

Is this a factory thing?
What was the purpose?
Does it cause rust?
Is it available or do you just buy it from a rubber shop? What size is it?

Cheers

It is a standard factory item:

or get your own from Clark Rubber.

There was two different types, one for the roundie and one for the clubbie style.

Cuts noise, vibration, water splashback, and in the case of most rovers: the rust.

Adds weight, run without it.

It's just a rectangular section sponge, Clark rubber should have it, I got mine from Grippy Rubber in Silverwater (Sydney).
1M is enough, then trim it to fit in.

The roundies have the square section rubber but the clubman has the h shaped one that fits on the front lip of the gutter.

$3.29 well spent.

It cut down a shocking vibration that only happened at idle.
