So the plate looks legit, but the car it's currently attached too?

Who knows? :?

Well, given that the body number stamped into the firewall matches the plate, I'd say the chances are good the car is legit too...

True, the stamping of that looks OK too, but there are cars with bits welded in, or even welded together!!

That head looks like an alloy one?

The plate looks genuine to me, and the chassis number on the car matches, but is it just me, or does the chassis number on the car appear to have been stamped from inside the car? The numbers appear to be raised, not impressed.

Watto.

Thanks Watto

That was my original thought, shouldn't the numbers be all rasied like the rest of the plate and the paint code is

I think you mis-understood me.

The plate looks correct.

The stamping on the car body does not.

Cheers,
Watto

Ok a picture paints a thousand words

If you look at the first pic the numbers are stamped from the top on the second pic its reversed stamped like brail. (i know the 2nd plate is from a Cooper)

Image PIC 1

Image PIC 2

Hence my original question, what was standard

On a Cooper S the engine numbers were stamped from the front. The plate is correct.
On that Cooper the engine number was stamped from the rear just like the rest of the plate.
Both plates are correct. The Cooper is a very late one with an Australian 998 motor.

In my collection of plate photos the only Cooper S plate that has the numbers stamped from the back is an Austin Cooper S in NZ.

ID plate and firewall stamping both look good to me.
