Ok this doesn't really relate to you big bore lads and ladies or you engine converted types or non normally aspirated mob as you have the option of putting your right foot down..

When I go out driving I get chased by what would be small cars to other drivers, you know Mazda 3's, Suzuki Swifts and even a scooter (granted it was a big one 650cc Suzuki)!!

Does this happen to other people in my situation (normally asprirated 998 engine). I wouldn't mind so much but even though I am doing the speed limit or just above they still insist on tailgating me. In the rain it's down right dangerous.

Is it revenge for them being tailgated and chased by bigger cars and they are happy they finally found something smaller. Sigh.....

That's Perth drivers for you. You see driving in Perth isn't about how long it takes for you to get from A to B, it's how many cars you can overtake and your "track position". You could be driving an old Corolla, a Mini, a Ferrari, a Rodeo, a Lexus or a Kenworth, it doesn't matter, another Perth driver will want to "beat" you and take your "position". And don't attempt to merge either. If you use the "zipper configuration" to make merging work, well that's just giving away your position on the "track", and you can't have that. Indicators are also only used at the last minute, because you don't want the other "racers" to know your plan/strategy.

Just remember, there is always someone in Perth who is faster than you and they want you to know that because they KNOW you care

Oh yes I forgot most Perth Drivers are Shite.... Oh well I guess the next time I get chased/followed I'll go find some roundabouts. Unless the car following has flashing red and blue lights, then I'll head down the cycle paths....

I don't think it is just Perth. In Brissie if some @sshole isn't on your tail they are trying to drag you off at the lights.

That about somes it up in Perth! Especially the freeways-it's how close can I get up the arse of that Mini Mind you I will soon be able to experience driving the Mini in SA-Vic-NSW and Tassie soon? What will I have to put up with?

Is it just them deluding themselves into thinking they have sportscars / real driving (riding) ability? They can see over the roof, so as Wasabi said, they are lining up the next apex, just like Fast & Furious (which often means the fork on the freeway at the Northbridge tunnel ) There does seem to be a dog eat dog mentality on the roads all too often - constantly amazes me how people just sit out in the right hand lane for no reason, other than some sense of power...

Back when I worked at a scaffold yard, one day at the lights a Hyundai Excel jumped in front of one of our trucks at the very last minute, even tho the truck was already braking hard to pull up with several tonnes of gear and a Hiab on the back. Excel driver was only thinking about qualifying on the front row at the red light A few seconds later, the limited edition Excel Super Compact was created, with the boot in the backseat Slammed it cleared across the intersection, driver of the Excel was held to be at fault for being so stupid. And yes, it was Perth as well! Good times...

When driving in Perth it always takes me a few days to get used to it. A lot of the time its just bloody scary. You leave enough room for yourself and the fools race to get in front of you . Try not to drive too much when I do venture there!

Easy way to fix that is putting a pair of spot lights facing backwards on your parcel shelf.

Last time I was in Perth everyone drove really slow. On the freeway to Freo everyone was doing about 10 k's under the limit. I got worried my dads cars speedo was out of whack

That's because there is no "Freeway" to Freo.
To get to Freo you are on" Highways" where the speed limit varies from 60k's to 80k's,depending on which highway you use to get there.

Going from my dads suburb (Balcatta) Google maps says you take the Mitchell Freeway, then the kwinana Freeway and then the canning hwy with small roads in between.

I spent a week in Perth earlier this year (the week of THAT storm) and was driving around in a beigey coloured rented Camry with a few battle scars. (yuk!)

I found the drivers were pretty good, polite, let me in when I needed to move lanes etc. I also found they all seemed to sit 5-10km/h under the limit on the freeways, so I had no problem getting past them.

Maybe the crap car meant they were giving me a wide berth.
