One of the AEG163 heads I use on one of my race motors has been in the kiln and welded up (as described eariler), around 3 years ago. It fixed the head and we have had no further problems. It was done by a professional head shop and cost a small fortune but is was well worth it as the head is a bit too special to throw away. Unless you are using a Mk 1 S head for racing purposes then most head shops should be able to fix any small cracks, these heads are far to rare to bin, expecially if it is unmodified, a rare find these days.

I have heaps of cracked ones here,,, i`ve repaired plenty of these over the years & some are still going strong,,, but some others died miserably pretty early in the piece

years ago there was a big mad rush on 163 heads cause the appendix-J rules started changing to "MAKE" you use a 163 head , so i went out looking for as many as i could find & started repairing them all,,, Brian Brooks also did the same & we made some pretty decent repairs back then,,, but then the J rules relaxed once again to let people use 940 heads (again) so i now have a big pile of cracked 163 heads sitting here

:-)
