I am in the process of fitting a HS6 carby and manifold to my Mini and have a couple of questions.
In this first photo you can see a connection adjacent to the fuel bowl just below the dashpot which goes into the carby between the piston and the butterfly. I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that this is for the vaccuum system for the timing. I already have a vaccuum line to my dizzy from the smaller connection further forward on the carby just aft of the spacer block and manifold.

Can I simply put an airtight blank on the larger connection? If not what should I connect there?

My second question is about an airfilter. I am having difficulty locating a backplate for a ramflo filter to fit this carby in Sydney. I am considering using the ramflo filter assy from my 1 1/2 inch carb and modifying the backplate to make it fit. Is this a reasonable option or should I just spend the money and get one sent from Vic or SA?

Q1. the big connection is vacuum, for a crankcase breather. Worth using, IMO. If not, plug it.
Q2. I modified an HS4 Ramflo filter to suit my HS6. It wasn't hard to do (my mill made it easy).

Thanks for the answers.
I have fitted the larger connection on the manifold itself and have set up the plumbing to run from my PCV valve to that connection thus dumping the crankcase ventilation directly into the manifold. (That is how it is setup on my HS4 now). I will therefore plug the vacuum connector on the carby itself.
Unless I can source a HS6 Ramflo I will attempt a mod on my HS4 filter assy.

You can't run direct to the manifold unless you fit a PCV valve in the line to control the flow..
The beauty of plumbing it to the vac port on the carby is no PCV valve is needed.

Nice looking carby where did tou get that ??!!!! lol I simply blocked both off easiest way to do it then you know it is not sucking air from those 2 points .

Yeh Grant that carby is a beauty....Plus the spring mount you gave me came in handy when the bracket / heatshield I bought wasn't as advertised and I had to weld an extra piece onto it to make it all work.

I used rubber plugs and sold the ramflows for these K&N filters.
