Just wondering if anyone owns/has pics of a Mini subframed trailer.
I know it's a fairly common thing to do (or was at least!), so was seeing what varieties are out there.
Whether box trailer, motorbike trailer - whatever!

We rural dwellers who use bottled gas either have the bottles delivered regularly (at a cost) or swap the empties over for full ones at our local distributer. Rules state that the bottles must be transported standing up so if you don't have a ute, a trailer is often the easiest way to take them into town.
This is a cut down (narrowed) dry mini subframe with an awfully short draw bar the does the job admirably - so long as you don't need to reverse it !!

I looked at building a trailer using a Mini subframe, but they are heavy compared to a live axle and a couple of leaf springs. So I used the lazy rear axle out of a Daihatsu Handivan instead.

Although a Mini subframed trailer would handle better.

thats pretty ingenious. I have always wanted a trailer something like that as a Salvage Trailer (basically a cut down trailer that lifts the front wheels of a Mini up off the ground if its broken down).

Love the mudguards on that.

here you go... 5'6" x 3'6" - beautiful little thing to tow. Has a standard dry subframe under it, mounted by the original mounts. It doesn't have any dampers, so bounces a bit when it's empty, but otherwise great

Excellent! that is one thing that concerns me a bit - the issue of not running any dampers/shock absorbers on it.

Rubber springs are supposed to be fairly self damping or at least more self damping than leaf springs and a lot more than coil springs. You can fit dampers if you make the box narrower or you could use lever arm dampers from a Sprite or Morris Minor and mount them under the floor of the trailer.

I had a car trailer for a Formula Vee that was made from a Mini rear sub-frame that had been cut down the centre and widened. It was a horrible thing!

You could use a Hydro subframe with each bag blanked off so it's independant. No damper issues then.

yep - after you suggested Minor dampers I got dad to bring me some of his spares.... 4 years later they're still waiting to be fitted, but should work quite well

Hydro would work, I'd use chains instead of helper springs...

OR get rear ended!!!!!!

I've wondered for my trailer about running rubber cones and hydro helper springs.
I've got 13" wheels for so the trailer itself won't weigh much compared to the suspension.

A bit more than the subframe, but I think they look quite good. There are better examples than this, but I'm on dialup at the moment and can't be bothered finding them...

Ideal for the Mini owner that is sick of having things that wont fit in the boot of his Mini.
Now he can have two boots that it won't fit into.

I have the back half of a Moke, that I've almost finished converting into a trailer. I left the standard suspension in due to laziness.
