yeh but i dont think you can import tyres here though, because theyre rubber, just something i read when i was looking at imported cars and the process, they have to have new tyres put on them.

Honestly, that sounds like complete horseshit. How many tyres are made here, and how many are imported? Ask Steve at Brickworx about importing tyres...

maybe its just on imported cars, ill see if i can dig up the link. i know people import tyres, how else would we get them, i just read somewhere that imported cars must have new tyres fitted, quarantine laws or something like that.

found where i read it from

Quote:
While of good quality, Japanese tyres do not have the DOT symbol to indicate that they have been tested to and have passed Australian Standards.

This is why all tyres must be changed as part of SEVS compliance even if the Japanese tyres are still in good condition. Whether you can keep the old tyres will depend on the discretion of the compliance workshop and how they choose to apply the rules of the new import scheme.

all tyres must comply with the new(ish) AQIS standards, that is they must come with certificates stating that they have not been used and were stored in a certain way to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in them.

if they do not have these certificates, they have to go for costly procedures like fumigation.

but yes you can import them

Sometimes before people "sh1t can" things they should try them out and then make comments......dont forget that everyone has different requirements for they way they need/want a tyre to perform.

My mate who happens to manage a tyre shop has a set of these in 17" on a "dunnydore" and says they are very good in the wet and dry as grippy as the "yoko aspec range" but are not quite as soft as the yoko's so arn't wearing as fast.
I am going to get a set in a couple of weeks and try them out as my yoko a539's (it would be nice if we could still get these....they have done heaps of kms and still grip well now) are on the wear indicators and really need to be replaced. I will then give my assessment.
I would love to put a semi slick on but cant justify the $$$$ for the amount of driving i do and the way i drive BALLISTIC.

Just a quick update on the performance of these tyres, I have to say that they are a much better tyre then the ones they replaced, in the wet and in the dry. 8) . They seem to hold on pretty well and are nice and quite, so there you go, at least you can buy a decent 12inch tyre at a resonable price here in Oz.. :D

Sorry for reviving an old thread...

I am looking at buying a set of these Falken ZE912's, how have other people found them? Whats the wear rate like, and also dry/wet performance with new/worn tyres.
I did have the 'privilege' of driving on the infamous 10" Falkens in the wet, and don't want the same experiences.

I sent a pm to gerg already about his tyres, but I am interested in other people's experiences as well.

Cheers
Jonesy

i'll admit i do not drive my mini often in the wet but i have had no issues with these tyres. I find them great to drive on. I mainly take my car on mini runs or just to weekend work etc so haven't done enough kms to gauge wear but they do handle any corners or conditions i throw at them

I've been using them for a while on the Clubby. They are a big improvement over the previous type. In all honesty the previous type were OK. Poor performance but you did get decent milage from them and at least they were easily available. If you drive your Mini sedately then you won't really notice the difference between the two.

The Bridgestone 10 inch tyres on my other Mini are something else again. Infinite life, zero grip - But VERY cheap!

Haha, I drove on the bridg'ies as well.
I remember one day I went around a slight bend in a back street at about 40kmh and the road was just damp, and the rear end just went on me, couldn't believe it.
Main reason I am concerned is I drive on the freeway a lot to work, and stationary water tends to be a problem.
How do you find the tyres in torrential rain?

Cheers
Jonesy
