What is the pipe that's connected to the top of the head and what is the valve that appears to be operated by a cable?

Image

Mine doesn't have the valve, it's just got a little chrome tube on a flange that the rubber pipe is fitted over.

In this pic i can't determine where the pipe in question disappear to....

.... OHHHH... wait, is it for a heater? It just occured to me. Mine doesn't have a heater.

Anyhow... I'm planning on replacing the rubber pipe with a nice neat hard tube that hugs the rocker cover... I figure it'll look neater. There's too many rubber pipes floating around my engine bay.

it goes to the heater inside the cabin. some heater only have a switch for the fan but the valve you see lets water to pass when you want it to. Clubby Heaters have the valve down at the heater

I see... I actually worked it out when i'd alread written most of the post. Thought i'd post it anyway, just to confirm.

So, do all minis have this ugly pipe and .... Wait, i think i just worked out the answer to my next question. The reason this pipe looks so ugly and pointless on my car and the car in the pics i posted are because we're both running Webers. It would have previously connected to either side of the heated SU manifold?? and thus not have to pass under the carby like it currently does. Correct? ?

if you have a heated Inlet manifold you can do that or if you dont want a heater you can also blank it off but you would also change the bottom radiator pipe also

Hmmm... so i can just blank it off and put a plug in the bit of the radiator hose where the pipe would otherwise join to it.

I don't have a heated manifold so i might just remove teh pipe if that won't affect things adversely.

Oh and when you want your 1/2 inch spanner and can't find it. It's behind your brake master cylinder..

*edit to say* Just realised, that aint your car, it's Doogie's, which means it's his spanner too. :D

Can't make an offer without more info. Does it go round the front or the back of the rocker cover? My Weber linkages will get in the way if it goes round the back.

Also, if i'm reading correctlyt it would appear i can get rid of the pipe completely and just blank off the hole in the head.?

They look like this.

I took mine off and sold it on ebay. (The one pictured isn't mine.) It was fine but I'm trying to go back to original now.

If you don't buy it off wombat you can pay more for postage and get it here!

I see... thanks guys.

I gave a mini specialist a call this morning and he confirmed there's no problem with just blanking off the hole in the head and running without the pipe. So, that's what i'm gonna do.
