mmmm,

Right petrol tank hole seems bit low compared to left, and no rolled lip for oil cooler. Also the cowl numbers look very neat - very un-BMC like!

Lets' see the MK1 when he lists it.....

Yeah, I noticed the straight lip where the oil cooler goes and thought that was odd. Also the numbers seem too far over almost under where the rubber seal goes between the radiator shroud and the radiator? Maybe?

I think it is more S than most Ss I know. But a close inspection could reveal otherwise of course. Tank hole alignment is fine. Oil cooler lit could have been modified. Not sure of angle of brace! Would still make a good car regardless.

If the seller had added the word "mini" in his auction listing title he would have made a few more thousand on the final bid price.

From the photos supplied the car looks all good to me. Numbers match build date schedule. The positioning of the stampings on the rad shroud on MK2's are very erratic. Mine has numbers sitting half under rubber seal too.

All the usual check points are ok. But go further, look at the finer details, eg original oil cooler hoses, correct air box, breather under rear seat etc.

A good buy I think.

Prefix Has been re-stamped on radiator shroud .
Mk2 S prefix and numbering are not same size .
Originally The YG2S was one stamp , therefore very well aligned , with the 4 being a separate single stamping , these all being about 6 mm high and the car number being single stampings approx 10-12 mm high .........

Bet theres no change out 30 grand (probably heaps more) for purchase price + rebuild on this vehicle, could be fortunate and be able to do the work themselves
8600 puchase price
10000 paint & panel
5000 motor & gearbox
500 brakes & booster
500 subframes
500 wiring harness
500+ rubbers
1000+ interior
500 + exhaust & exhaust
these are all conservative prices, and could name a lot of other stuff to restore car a nice level.
Not trying to put gloom on this project but to restore a car so you don't have do it again takes time & money. Well worth the effort in the end. As the potential car Value of these cars is now $45000 by Just Cars price guide -30 grand is a cheap car.

There is nothing wrong with the stamping. Early mark2 had the stamping 2 different sizes, I know of 4 different Mk2s 5/70 onwards that have the same size stamping 2 of these cars have original owners with paperwork

Definitely not knocking it....just making a few observations and getting feedback which I have.......

The rest of it looks the goods, and I am keen to check out the Mk1 when listed. Hope he does put "mini" in the description too!

Hope to the see the Mk2 resurrected and on the road!
