is 7kg too much for a bare rim?

I think i need to change the wheels on the sports sedan!

28kgs just in the rims seems like a lot?

I bought some 13 x 8 GTR Superlite wheels which weigh in at 5.5kg bare.

There was a mob in Sydney (Full Throttle Performance) importing 13 x 8 Panasport wheels which are apparently a lot lighter, but their web site doesn't work anymore so I don't know if they exist anymore.

With your sports sedan, the lighter the better

7kg does seem like a lot. I take it they are cast centre, steel rims??
For comparison the wheels on my lotus are 16x7.5 and 17x8.5 and are 5.8 and 6.5kg respectively. Switching between my forged wheels and the alloy road ones provides a very noticeable difference in handling even on the road. In a car as small as that I imagine it would make a massive difference.

Depends on the size of the rims.
I run 13x7 Revolution RFX rims at 7.4kg each - but the hub of the wheel effectively has an inbuilt spacer, so not all of that mass is at the outside.

For a 13x7 race rim, the "Superlight" GTR is not that impresive at 4.9kg. I'm looking for something lighter for the race car.

my alloy S rims are a bit under 2.5kg

I've been looking at getting some 10" and 13" rims for my sports sedan made up here in Vic.

As for the centres, a bloke I know has moulds to make Mawer copies. I've found a mob in Castlemaine who can cast the centers, just having trouble finding someone who can machine them up.

the costs of my wheels are a result of Uk cost of living and the labour rates we have to apply, there's not a lot i can do about it,

But i can offer discounts if i take an order of a minimium of three sets of any size from the range , so if three people want to get there heads together you could save a few
$$$s. i have previously had my hands ties with regards to costing these wheels , but now i have in house cnc turning and milling i have a little more freedom ,

Sorry Carl, wasn't meaning to complain about the price as you produce a quality product.

Its the exchange rate that kills us, and import duty on entry to Australia.

Do you sell the centres separately?

I use to run 10x8 inch rims on my race car but we can no longer buy tyres to suit. I ran 200/450-10 and 190/450-10 Dunlop Slicks, but the only size that seems to be available now is the 160/450-10 as used by the Miglias. I notice your car is using Hoosiers. What size rims are you using?

I never thought for a minute you were having a dig, and i undesrtand about the exchange rate thing, i don't know about Oz but here in the uk rent and rates are a piss take , for want of a better word.

but i 'm happy to supply centres only if it's of a use to anyone, there are ways to reduce any aditional costs at your end if you know what i meen.


i thought i had listed centres on my site, but a quick look says no,

i do use the 7.5 " wide hoosier on a 7.5wide wheel, if i were concentrating on going around bends more i'd put them on an 8-8.5" wheel,
